    Hi,

North East Almeria Province and with a serious lack of car at the moment. Anyone around who fancies taking a bird who hasnt been on a bike in 6 years out? I have to warn you that since getting out of the saddle I have developed a serious tabacco habit, my technical skills were never great but now they are probably in the negative numbers and my bike is in desperate need of a service. Other than that I am raring to go!;-)

    Hey.
I am wondering why you need some to take you out for a ride. Why use a car when you can to/fro good cycling terrain easily by hitting the pedals and/or use bus/train service. Give it a coat of oil, polish it up a bit and Get on your bike man! You already detected you had a problem with tabaco, what are you waiting for ? Get a pannier or some old backpack and start comunting to your workplace... I swear you that within 2-3 months you feel just great!!

    ;-)
    regards

Well, atleast someone cares enough to reply:crybaby

Unfortunately, with only 7km one way, it isnt exactly going to get me fighting fit. In the old days I used to do 40 miles a day, now that felt gooood!

Anyways, it doesnt matter, its clear noone wants to take on the challenge so forget it, I'll stick to walking the dogs on the bike, at least then I get the satisfaction of them collapsing from exhaustion before me!

    Hi there!

You sound a bit sour. As the other post suggested, start with a daily commute and get fit again. Try to catch up with other local MTB riders. There is a section in the forum for rides taking place in different parts of the country and yours will be south. There is probably another forum or page where people in Almeria, Granada or Malaga post information about regular rides and other bike related events.
Hope you find someone to ride with soon.
    Best luck

    Cheers,

I have to admit, I was a bit sour. Having spent all my free time in the UK cycling with great people, I thought there would be no problem over here but it seems that you mention the dirty word - tobacco - and everyone runs a mile! Its also nice the way everyone assumes I am totally unfit - I work in construction guys! Doesnt matter if I havent cycled for a while, that just means my arse will go numb within the first 10 miles, I am still fit!

But your response has cheered me up. Thanks again and i will keep trying!

    Hi again!

yes, you are right, cycling is not as popular here as in the UK, so you have to do your "homework" and try to catch up with the few people who are really into the sport and ride on regular basis. Your post gave me the idea that unfitness was also part of the problem: no offense intended! I am also a fit person who happens to smoke too (although I have significantly cut the number of cigarettes I smoke per day for the last six months). And, yes, I also get strange looks when I have a smoke dressed with my cycling attire and helmet, but nevermind....
Hope you have already found some buddies to ride with.

Nope, no chums yet! Was hoping to find some to help me set up my land too. Thought people would be well up for building down hill tracks and setting up an MTB centre (got pre approval for funding recently) but nada!

Nobody yet? Sorry to hear that but there must be some locals going out now and again...a couple of weeks ago I saw a couple of guys in San José on their bikes (covered in dust of course, Cabo de Gata...what else there) although that might be a bit too dry, hot and sunny for a start. Good luck

    Cheers

agiroke, I don't know how your level of Spanish is, but you're not getting replies not because people don't want to ride with you, but because this subforum is virtually dead. ;) Almost no one visits it. Perhaps you could try posting in the General subforum, even if it is in English - you're guaranteed a bunch more views there, even if most people won't understand they're still happy to go riding with newcomers, even if it involves a lot of sign language. :p

    Regards!
