We are constantly addressed what type of bike is the best and the most suitable for the terrain. These questions often fall on me too. To my opinion, if not speaking that the mountain bike suits mainly to the mountain bike riding, I would first exclude by my personal choice HARDTAIL 26 inches. In spite the fact that it is the lightest and the most skilful, the other aspects are against it. And therefore it is the only bike, which I do not have and I haven´t ridden it for 6 years and I think I will not any more. On the second place I would put 26-inch full suspension bike. I spent on it 5 successful years and it was the right choice, until I got into my hands the same bike on big wheels 29 "! But back to the HT / FULL. I think you need to get used to a different riding style when you are changing from HT to FULL. You have the feeling that FULL is slow, mainly in acceleration and dynamics. This I see as the biggest problem, why are many people frightened to change from the lighter HT to FULL. But when I take it real, how much maximum dynamics does the rider use in 2 hours of intensive riding compared with the possibility to go much faster downhill, in driving technique and to save important parts of the body? When I put it together, I always come out to the better FULL suspension than the emotionally solid bike. Therefore, I choose FULL in 95% of the races. The remaining 5% are the races more suitable for the cyclocross bike. Shortly you can reach this result on your own, racing is the only possible objective test. But it is not a bad idea to train from time to time on HT the technique, to obtain a better feeling for the terrain, which is not possible on FULL. It is always better to have the experienced skills, because you have mastered the riding technique on FULL. 26" / 29" ?? It has been already decided. 29" is the future. In the course of time I am much more sure about it, when I pass the races as the last year and I return to the same technical races. The sections where I had the problems last year on 26", I´m going on 29" without any problems. The only exceptions are the closed curvers, but there are minimum of them. Another important thing is to learn how to ride the 29" bike, which took me almost three mounths. After this time I am able to use 100% of its all advantages and to delete all the negative aspect. Results: For the marathon and easy trails with lot asphalt, which are fast tracks, the 29" HARDTAIL is the best. Large wheels for longer tracks and the marathons are the unambiguous choice because of the minimal need of acceleration and technical curves where the 26" has slightly better features. For the technical cross country and long distance terrains is 29" FULL SUSPENSION. Into is based on the use of bicycles: SPECIALIZED S-Works Eic 26", SPECIALIZED S-Works Stumpjumper ht 29er and SPECIALIZED S-Works Epic 29er."
